A few years ago, at a juried art exhibition that I won, the judge told the audience that my abstract work is baroque. I was surprised but then I thought about it. My abstracts are simple, direct, flattish, bright and busy. I am interested in creating the illusion of space and then negating that illusion. I am also inordinately fond of compositions that barely hold together. So now instead of saying flat and crazy, I can say baroque. Sometimes rococo.
